When I started telling people I was studying finance, a lot of them assumed I’d spend my days strictly staring at spreadsheets. And while that’s certainly part of the job, Flagstone has shown me that this career is so much more. It’s about people, relationships, and helping clients feel confident in their financial lives.
My name is Ava Heyne, and I am so grateful to be part of the team at Flagstone. I joined the team as a Financial Planning Intern this past October, and I’m excited to be continuing here full-time as a Financial Planning Resident after my graduation in May.
I was born and raised in Omaha, and sports played a huge role in my life growing up. I spent most of my childhood on the volleyball court, which eventually led me to play Division I volleyball at Jacksonville State University my freshman year of college. After that year, I made the decision to step away from volleyball and transfer to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
That transition ended up shaping my path more than I expected. At the last minute, I decided to rush a sorority and joined Kappa Alpha Theta. Just a few months later, I stepped into the role of Vice President of Finance. That experience was my first real exposure to finance outside of the classroom, and I quickly realized how much I enjoyed it. It pushed me to declare finance as my major and start thinking seriously about a career in the field.
What drew me to financial advising was the balance of analytical thinking and personal connection. I’ve always loved working with numbers, but building relationships and getting to know people is where I thrive. Being part of a team has always mattered to me too, and that’s something I’ve carried with me from my years in sports. It’s a big reason why Flagstone has felt like such a natural fit.
Outside of work, I love spending time with family and friends. I’m always up for traveling, especially when it means visiting my older sister Lily in Tulsa or heading back to Omaha for a pool day with my other sister, Brooke. I also enjoy cooking, reading, spending time outside, and cheering on the Huskers!
I’m really excited for the opportunity to learn and grow alongside a team that truly values both their clients and each other. I’m especially looking forward to building strong relationships and playing a role in helping clients feel confident as they work toward their goals!
